The Carpet and Rug Museum in Isparta, the City of Roses, Attracts Attention
Isparta is a major center for rose and rose oil production in Türkiye. This city uniquely blends nature and culture.
In 2024, the museum welcomed 110,000 local and foreign tourists.
The Prof. Dr. Turan Yazgan Ethnography Carpet and Rug Museum opened in 2013 in the Göller Region of Isparta. It has attracted significant interest from visitors.
The Isparta Municipality established the 11-story museum at the Gökçay Junction. It covers 3,200 square meters and showcases unique carpets, rugs, and ethnographic artifacts from Anatolia.
Zeliha Alan, a Folk Culture Researcher from the Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate, highlighted the museum’s importance. She noted that it is a key center for displaying prestigious carpets.
The museum features various carpets and rugs from different regions of Anatolia. It also displays ethnographic items, cedar covers, tents, and historical woven carpets. “Our oldest carpet is 200 years old, and we received these pieces as donations,” she said.
Alan emphasized the increase in visitor numbers last year. “In 2023, 60,000 people visited our museum. In 2024, this number reached 110,000. About 10,000 visitors came through tour organizations, and we see strong interest from neighboring provinces. We invite everyone to visit our museum, which is open for free seven days a week.”
