Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements regarding the developments in Syria during a live broadcast on NTV.
He said, “The regime could have been overthrown earlier, but there were strong and firm interventions from Russia and Iran. However, Russia and Iran realized that the old conditions no longer existed and that Bashar al-Assad, who had been invested in, did not live up to those investments. An agreement was reached at the meeting in Doha, and as a result, the regime was overthrown. We have acted cautiously, especially to ensure that this transition process is bloodless.”
Fidan stated, “The activities of the patriotic members of the National Intelligence Organization have been effective in revitalizing the Syrian opposition. On the other hand, the rights of our soldiers and officers who have participated in operations in Syria cannot be compensated. The National Intelligence Organization is taking a more proactive role. The Turkish Armed Forces are applying deterrence. These are actions that can only be implemented by great powers. In line with the strategy developed by our President, we are pursuing the path of identifying and eliminating threats at their source.”
