Turkish father of Janina Özen-Otto, owner of German online shop OTTO, dies

Rıza Özen (77), the father-in-law of Janina Özen-Otto, the owner of Otto, the German online shopping giant with an annual turnover exceeding tens of billions of Euros, died in a traffic accident in front of his house. There is great mourning at Otto, whose annual turnover exceeds 16 billion Euros.

Janina Özen-Otto (51), the owner of the Otto dynasty, Germany’s largest online and mail order company, had married Rıza Özen’s son, boxing promoter İsmail Özen-Otto (43), in 2016.

In the accident that took place in Hamburg on Saturday evening around 21.15, a car driven by a 41-year-old driver hit Rıza Özen as he was making a turn in the dark.

People who saw Rıza Özen thrown into the air immediately called for first aid. Police, fire brigade and first aid arrived at the scene and Rıza Özen, who had lost his life, was revived. However, he died of his injuries at St. George’s Hospital.

Ismail Özen-Otto told the German press, “As a family we are in shock. My father had an accident a few meters away from his house. The accident happened at the intersection there. You have to drive slowly at this intersection. We don’t know how it happened.”

The police conducted investigations and reenactments at the scene with 3 D technology. However, it was not possible to understand exactly how the accident happened. It was also stated that no witnesses could be found.
