Election plans in AK Party; Erdoğan is a definite candidate, election in March 2028!

According to the latest backstage information obtained by Besti Karalar, the Parliamentary correspondent of EKONOMİ Newspaper, who conveys very important information from the backstage of political parties in Ankara, the AK Party will go to the elections in March 2028 under the candidacy of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

It is almost certain that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will run again. For now, the only way for this to happen is for the parliament to decide on an election before the election date. However, there are rumors that President Erdoğan’s re-election will not be possible through early elections, but through an election decision with an earlier date. In this case, a decision to be taken in 2027 and the election to be held in 2028 comes to the fore.

Another way is to amend the Constitution to allow the President to run again. However, a constitutional amendment is the weakest possibility. The only way is a parliamentary decision.

There are scenarios being discussed in the AK Party’s circles that Turkey may go to the polls not through early elections, but by moving the elections to a few months earlier. As in the previous elections, Turkey will not go to the polls on time and there will be no early elections.

In the 2023 elections, it was also discussed whether President Erdoğan would run again. In order to prevent these discussions, President Erdoğan used his constitutional authority and decided to hold elections by dissolving the Parliament. At the time, the government interpreted this as an ‘update’, not an early election. Now, it is on the agenda to try the same path with a parliamentary decision.

According to AK Party sources, “In December 2027, the Parliament decides to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in March instead of May 14. Then this would not be an early election, but an election with an earlier date” scenarios are being discussed.
