One of the important epics of the Turkic world, “Alpamış Batur Epic” will be nominated as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The epic includes the adventures of the hero Alpamış and reflects the values and traditions of the Turkish people.
The decision to nominate the “Alpamış Batur Epic” for the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List was discussed in Kazakhstan.
An international scientific and theoretical conference titled “The Spiritual Heritage of Turkic Peoples in World Civilization: The Alpamış Batur Epic” was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in collaboration with the Turkish Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Mukhtar Auezov Institute of Literature and Art.
Historians and researchers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, as well as from Mongolia and the Republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, participated in the conference and presented on the “Alpamış Batur Epic.”
In her speech, Aktotı Raimkulova, the President of the Turkish Culture and Heritage Foundation, stated that the Foundation is working to promote the culture and heritage of the Turkic world on the international stage. She emphasized that the Alpamış Batur Epic is one of the common heroic epics of the Turkic world, noting, “The epic clearly narrates the traditions, knowledge, worldview, and reality of ancient times. The Alpamış Batur Epic is a source of national pride that instills unity and spirituality among the Turkic peoples. Therefore, this conference is important for the formation and development of the national consciousness of the younger generation and for the preservation of the identity and unity of the Turkic peoples.”
The conference also addressed the nomination of the Alpamış Batur Epic for the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Additionally, the English translation of the epic was introduced.
The Alpamış Batur Epic is known as a heroic epic of the Kazakhs, where the warrior spirit of Alpamış Batur is intertwined with the identity of the people. Passed down orally for centuries, the epic was first published in 1899.
