At İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, the police stopped six female passengers of Uzbek nationality. During the search of the women and two vehicles that came to pick them up, a total of 166 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, and 18 gaming consoles were seized.
Of the gold bars, 84 were found in the women’s genital areas.
Receiving a tip-off about the smuggling of gold bars into Türkiye, the teams from the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department stopped six female passengers of Uzbek nationality who arrived by plane from Dubai to İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport on October 2, along with two vehicles that came to pick them up, at the airport’s exit.
During the search of the vehicles and the passengers, 82 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, 18 gaming consoles (PlayStation), and 3 smartphones were seized.
Following a court order, a surgical procedure was performed on the Uzbek female passengers for an internal body examination, resulting in the extraction of an additional 84 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, from their genital areas.
The total weight of the 166 gold bars seized, amounting to 18 kilograms and 500 grams, was reported to have a market value of 55 million TL. Six Uzbek female passengers caught smuggling the gold, along with one suspect identified as having assisted them, were taken into custody.
Seven individuals were arrested by the court.
