Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that Türkiye will be more resilient against the possible new tariffs of the USA.
Minister Şimşek spoke at the opening of the panel titled “Addressing Global Economic Uncertainty: Resilience Strategies,” which was the closing session of the TRT World Forum 2024.
He noted that the imposition of additional tariffs by the USA would negatively affect developing countries and continued his remarks as follows:
“So how will Türkiye respond to this? Türkiye is resilient against the increasing protectionist tendencies in trade. When we add the Customs Union, we have free trade agreements with 54 countries, which accounts for 62% of our total exports. There are also other countries with which we are currently negotiating comprehensive trade agreements. Türkiye is in a favorable position regarding supply trends from neighboring and friendly countries. This is because we are close and friendly with Central Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans, the European Union, and North Africa. Additionally, we have advantages in strengthening regional integration and connectivity through transportation routes.”
