Workers found more than 500 coins while digging a grave for a 26-year-old man. The coins were unearthed along with pieces of broken ceramic jars.
While excavating the grave of Nuri Kavas (26), who died in a traffic accident in Mersin’s Tarsus district, broken pieces of ceramic cubes and over 500 coins were found.
The teams dispatched to the area upon the notification of the locals took the surrounding area under a security circle.
The gendarmerie informed the Museum Directorate. In the study carried out under the supervision of Museum Directorate officials and gendarmerie, more than 500 coins were found at the burial site. Ceramic cube pieces and coins were taken under custody.
Museum archaeologists are working on the finds.
