The lighting works at the Aizanoi Ancient City, which houses the best-preserved Temple of Zeus in the world, have been completed. From now on, the ancient city can also be visited at night.
Aizanoi is located in the Çavdarhisar district of Kütahya. The city was established in the Phrygia region.
Founded in the 8th century BC, the Macellum located in Aizanoi is considered one of the world’s first stock exchanges. This structure demonstrates how advanced trade was in ancient times.
The lighting works took 6 years.
The lighting works, which began in 2018 under the leadership of the Kütahya Governorship, were carried out under the supervision of archaeologists from the Aizanoi Excavation Directorate without the use of heavy machinery to prevent damage to the historical remains.
Osmangazi Electricity Distribution Inc. General Manager Fuat Celepci stated, ‘While serving our consumers in our region, we want to contribute to the preservation of historical and archaeological sites as part of our social projects. For this reason, we maintain a healthy relationship with the relevant institutions and organizations. One of the first examples of this is the Aizanoi Ancient City located in Kütahya. As is known, this ancient city houses the best-preserved Temple of Zeus in the world. We have completed the electrical infrastructure and lighting for this area. This will allow the ancient city to be open to visitors not only during the day but also at night.’
