A deer shot in the leg with a rifle sought refuge in a factory in Izmir

In Türkiye, vandals shot a deer in the leg with a rifle in Izmir. The injured deer sought refuge in a factory in a desperate attempt to escape.

It was reported that the red deer undergoing treatment at the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park has a broken leg and will undergo surgery.

“On October 7, an injured red deer was found in the yard of a factory producing spare machine parts in the Kemalpaşa Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) in Izmir. Following a notification, the deer was taken by teams from the Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch Directorate to a shelter in the district and then to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park.

It was determined that the deer, which is undergoing treatment here, had been shot in the left front leg with a rifle and has a broken leg. The male red deer, which is estimated to have lived in this condition in the wild for about 1.5 years, is expected to undergo surgery next week.

The Minister of Agriculture states the deer’s health is improving

In a post on social media yesterday, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that the deer’s health is improving, saying, ‘After staying under observation as our guest for a while longer, it will return to its natural habitat.'”
