The endangered green iguana family, which is under protection at Bursa Zoo, is growing.
Bursa Zoo, a full member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA), is home to 882 animals from 133 species.
The green iguana, which has been living with its mate for 5 years, has had 125 babies so far.
One hundred of the small green iguanas were sent to other zoos in the country.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Zoo Coordinator Erdem Saker told AA correspondent that the 2 iguanas in the facility were previously housed in separate areas.
Stating that they brought them together with the arrangement made about 5 years ago, Saker said, “We equipped the shelter of our green iguanas in our garden with heating and lighting facilities and prepared a peaceful living environment for them.”
“Our zoo is not only a place where our animals can be seen by our visitors, it is also a natural habitat where animals facing the threat of extinction are kept under protection in order to contribute to species conservation and animal welfare is prioritized. These efforts aim to protect animals from the extinction of some animals in the past. Other species, such as our green iguana, continue their lives here because they have the best living conditions.”
